Turkey photo

I was suprised to get this picture of a turkey in this setting. It's a good deer and elk trail crossing a small creek, but the camera sets on a small flat spot aimed looking down on the creek bed.

Turkeys are doing quite well in our area even with all the rain.

Bear walking toward the camera

I like this bear picture of it walking toward the camera, shows the front paw and claws well and how they walk. For such a large animal they walk very soft without leaving much sign.

It did claw the camera up some this time but never got it off the tree. Thinking about setting them a little farther off the trail on the next checking.

Another bear

Still trying to get a good bear picture of it looking at the camera up close. Getting closer, but the bear sure isn't helping. I think it's just a matter of time, but there's several different bears and I want the larger bear.

They haven't bothered my cameras yet and I hope it stays that way. Been setting them about 18 inches off the ground and 6 feet from the trail.

Nice Bobcat

This bobcat was passing through the location where I got a good picture of a doe and fawn. I was suprised to see it out during the day but not in this location. I have gotten several good bobcat pictures in this area.

Several months ago this location was really slow for pictures and now that the deer and elk are moving things have picked up.

Calf elk

I set this camera up on a nice elk trail in an area where they normally have there calves this time of the year. Biggest problem is keeping the cows from knocking the camera around and aiming it at the ground. Several cows tried to bump the camera but I did get several pictures of this calf.

Coyote in the rain

It's always nice to get a picture of a coyote when it never sees the camera before the flash goes off. I try to hide the cameras and keep them low to the ground for smaller animals and still get all of a deer. The fur appears darker from the rain and the coloring this time of the year turns out nice in a night photo.

Coyotes should start shedding and get a patchy look in the spring, but this one still looks good.

Black bear

I needed some bear pictures so I went to my favorite ant stump to see if any bears have been digging. Sure enough, fresh digging all around the stump. Looked like several bears have been using this site and was wanting a picture of a large black bear during the day.

Got 50 or so pictures but only 3 were the kind I wanted, most of them the bear had it's back to the camera or other problems. Plus it was a smaller bear. Set 2 more cameras there at different angles and will pick them up Saturday, don't like to leave them too long around a bear. Luckily the bear never bothered the cam.

Nursing fawn

This doe and fawn stayed around the camera for over 6 pictures and several were of it nursing. Must be only a couple days old as far as I can tell. Have been getting quite a few fawn pictures in this area because it is close to the river and safety.

Even tho it was a close picture I went and cropped it to show the fawn better, it looks great in high resolution.

Bucks are starting to be active

Finally the animals are beginning to move as summer approaches. Getting a few fawn pictures and some nice bucks in velvet during the day. Have even seen a few while checking my cameras, which is unusual as I stumble along through the brush.

Bucks will be in more open country now while their antlers are growing and still soft, but once they get hard it's back to the brush.

Buck on my elk trail

Finally seeing a few bucks in velvet if I can keep the elk from trying to re-aim the cameras. Elk had played with 4 out of 7 of the cameras on this last trip to the woods.

Things should be looking up from now till the end of summer for pictures. Now if the grass would stop growing and I could catch up on the yard and garden work, oh well, it's just the busy time of the year, at least the weather is nice.
