Otter following the scent

This is the otter that came up on the landing after the mink moved the smoked salmon. It went right to the place I hid the bait and then followed the scent towards the camera to where the mink left it. After checking the camera I placed the meat back in the middle of the picture and covered it again with moss.

I used a stick to move it so I never got the smell on my hands, I try not to get any scent on the camera, had a bear chew on one before.

Scent test on an Otter landing

Set a camera on an Otter landing to see if any animals going past on the river would stop and check out a piece of smoked salmon I hid under some moss. The camera was hid so anything coming out of the river would almost be on land before the picture was taken.

Checked the camera today, and after only 3 nights I had several pictures of beaver, 3 otter pictures, a raccoon and 2 of a mink. I knew I would get pictures of beaver eating grass and possibly a raccoon, but the mink moving the smoked salmon towards the front of the camera was a suprise.

Elk are starting to move

Had a 41 on a good crossing trail when this small herd of elk passed through. The last years calves can be a problem when they come close to check out the camera. This one wasn't too bad and only breathed on the glass.
