How many tail feathers on a Red Tail Hawk?

This photo answers the question of the tail feathers on the hawk, although I'm no expert on birds and maybe all Red Tail Hawks could have more or less, but 12 looks like the normal count.

Hi Cliff. I haven't been by in a while, but when I do stop in, I'm always amazed. You couldn't ask for a better spot of luck on this one. I love the patterning of the feathers and the composition. Great shot for a random take.

Thanks,

Sometimes the random shot is the best and then I can take all the credit for setting a camera up for tail feathers. That's why this is such a great and interesting hobby.

Hi Cliff..I just want to thank you for your wonderful site. The redtailed hawk is awesome! We live off George Taylor Rd and are aware of the critters in the woodsaround us,but you give us a chance to see them! We once were looking out a window at the perfect moment to see a flying squirrel. At first we thought he'd fallen, but then he scurried back up the tree and took off again!Guess he was practicing take off and landings! I've given your site to many friends and they enjoy seeing what's happening in our "backyard"! I hope you keep it up forever! Peggie~Rice Park Rd~Silverlake

Thanks Peggie, glad you and everyone on the road enjoy the photos. I gives me pleasure to show some of my photos when not everyone has the time and health to hike in the woods.
