Firewood cutters on private timberland


Looks like anyone can cut firewood on private land without a permit. I've tried to catch them in the act but finally placed a hidden trail camera to photograph them at night. Now it's just a matter of identifying them in a lineup, but they all look alike, maybe toothprints will work.

I hope they get off lightly. They're the most likeable poachers in the woods.

I'm still amazed at the engineering feat of these animals, for not only do they cut the log length for how much they can handle but they know exactly the angle to begin chewing so they will get to the center of the log even as the diameter changes. I have measured this angle and the length of the block plus adding the diameter of the log and it is always adjusted to achieve there purpose.
